Young Women in Public Affairs Award

The Zonta Club of Naples has awarded its 2011 Young Women in Public Affairs Award to Megan Schultz, a senior at Naples High School and resident of Naples.

Megan receives a $1,000 award from the club and her application has been forwarded to the Zonta District 11 YWPA committee for their consideration. At the club level, this award has been made in memory of Eleanor Freeman, a charter member when the club was founded in 1973. In her application, Megan demonstrated her commitment to community service and women’s issues as Vice President of both Student Government and CORE, an organization that encourages underage students to remain drug and alcohol free. She is also the editor of the Talon Tribune, the school newspaper. She is a Humane Society volunteer, an intern at eBella Magazine, and a leader among youth at her church. Megan plans to attend the University of Missouri in the fall where she will major in journalism.

Now Accepting Applications for the Young Women in Public Affairs Award for 2012

Applicants are asked to reflect on their voluntary commitment to their school and their community and the problems limiting the advancement of the status of women in their own country and worldwide. The Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs program looks to the young women of today for the leaders of tomorrow. The winning applicant will be awarded US$1,000 from the Zonta Club of Naples and her application will be submitted to the District for further consideration. The 2012 District YWPA recipients will receive US$1,000, and five international recipients will be selected from the district recipients to receive additional awards of US$3,000 each.

Applications for the 2012 Young Women in Public Affairs Award are due by March 1, 2012.
